50 Young Storytellers

Posted on Wednesday, March 12, 2014

In the Month of February we were excited to have a couple of storying workshops. Part of my team went to another city to work with 20 dedicated pastors who worked at getting an oral story set in their native language. With those stories they can reach so many people in their villages and teach them about Jesus, without the villagers feeling like the Bible isn't for them because they can't read. It was exciting for me to hear the girls' enthusiasm as they returned. Lindsey and I got the blessing of going to live with a family who run a house church. This house church usually has 800 or more attenders on any given Sunday. We were surprised at the Sunday church service when Pastor had all of the teenage girls stand up. He informed them they would have a meeting with us on the upcoming Thursday. (This was all in Hindi). So Linds and I look at each other and laughed. We had no idea this was in the works until that moment, and we were pretty sure we were understanding the Hindi correctly. So we were thrilled to have a storying bible study with these fifty, bright eyed, energenic, teenage girls. We taught the story of the Alabaster Jar, where the woman came to Jesus's feet. Washed His feet with her tears and dried them with her hair, what love and faith she had! These girls acted the story out and put the story on their hands with Henna. They left empowered and excited to share the story with people at school and their neighbors. It was so encouraging to me, to see these girls take the Word of the Lord and be so excited to share it! After that week, we found out the church wanted us to come back and do a workshop the next week with part of their church. So our whole team returned a week later to teach about storying and give them an example through the story of Jesus Calms the Storm. Stories from Jesus and of Jesus have so much power and life to them. The truth we see resonates into our life today and give us an example to follow.
