There's a Really Big World at Your Fingertips

Posted on Thursday, November 14, 2013

Hello All! I hope that this finds you safe in the arms of our beloved Father, and that wherever you are, He is continually teaching you of His grace and mercy, as He is doing here for me. I moved to Eastern Asia a month ago. In some ways, it feels as if I just got on the plane, but in other ways it feels as if I have been living here for a lot longer than a month. I say that on a positive note because I have been constantly reassured that this place is the city where I’m meant to be for this season of my life.

I am beginning to enjoy the song of the city that goes all day and night. No matter the time, I am able to hear the hubbub of city life on the street below my apartment windows. I’m a suburban girl, so this lifestyle is quite a change. Even though it’s a drastic change, I’m the better off for it. Yesterday I was listening to Britt Nicole’s song “The Lost Get Found” as I was walking through city streets to meet with some friends (missionaries). The ending of the song says, “There’s a really big world at your fingertips, and you know you have the chance to change it.” When I heard those words, I paused for a moment, looked at all the skyscrapers surrounding me, and realized that these city streets aren’t American city streets; I truly am across the world from home. Throughout the past month, I have had a lot of little revelations like that. To me, these moments are beautiful gifts that help me to grasp how small the world truly is, if only we put our trust in the One who made the world.

On my living room wall, I hung a map of the world. Wherever my loved ones are, I can see them on my wall, and know that we are all exactly where the Father has placed us. I read not long ago about how location doesn’t so much matter in terms of serving Him. He is the one who engineers the location, and it is a matter of trusting in His sovereignty. Life is beautiful, in that no matter where we live, we can have our greatest desire, to serve Him who loves us.

I have also been learning a lot about teaching. It has been a hands on process, each class adjusting some of my expectations, and methods. I teach a middle school kid’s class, as well as two adult classes. All told, from Thursday to Sunday, I teach six classes. The kid’s classes are proving to be more trying than the adult ones. The adults give me a lot of grace as I learn how to communicate with them in a mix of the primary language and English. Even as I am working out the kinks, the teaching is a lot of fun!

Please keep me in your thoughts as I have started learning the primary language. I hope to learn quickly, so that I can communicate with local friends (missionaries) more effectively. Also for my own heart to continually be renewed by our
Father. I desire to seek Him daily here, and am learning how to do that all over again.

I keep the needs at home in my thoughts often as well.

May you be blessed, Bethany
