Amazing Grace and a Big Move

Posted on Wednesday, December 18, 2013

I have to leave the place that I have served at for a little over a year because my team and about 90% of all foreign believers have been deported in the past several months.  It is a bittersweet process of packing everything up and leaving.  Sweet in that God has done so much, and I have had the chance to reflect on how He is still in full control.  Bitter in having to say goodbye to people and having to give up personal plans and ideas of what everything was supposed to look like.  And so I guess I'll share the story of how the Lord worked in one person's life that I got to be a part of this past year.

About a month and a half after I moved here I started becoming good friends with one of my classmates.  I asked him to spend the night once so that we would have some time to talk without others around.  He is a "Cousin" Arab, and his friends discouraged him from talking with me because they knew I believed in Christ.  That night we shared our lives with one another, and the Holy Spirit made His Presence very real and my friend decided that he wanted to accept Christ right away.  As we prayed together that night he saw a vision of himself standing on top of a hill, looking up into the sky there was a bright cloud with a face in the cloud.  While praying for Christ to forgive him and save him, he saw a hand reach out from the cloud toward him.  After we prayed, he tearfully exclaimed how he felt like a different person.  He said that he felt like he used to be blind and now he felt like he could see.  I told him he was not the first person to feel like this and showed him the words to Amazing Grace.  He immediately loved the song and even performed it at a student concert later that year.

After that evening he continued to have awful nightmares every night.  We would pray for him, but the dreams kept coming every night.  However, at the end of this past summer we had an English Camp where we fought the demons attacking his dreams together. As we prayed for him, he was thrown to the floor by what he said was a demon.  He also was choked while we were praying for him.  Please take a moment to imagine yourself praying with someone only to see them being choked by an invisible hand!  We then continued to pray and my friend himself finally commanded the demon in Christ's name to leave.  At that point he saw Christ kill the demon, and he has not had another bad dream since that time.  Praise God!

My friend is from a war torn country and his family is still back there suffering.  He hasn't heard from them in a while and he knows that there has been no electricity and water is very scarce.  More than that, people he lives with know that he has been reading the Word and have threatened to make him leave and stop living with them.  Yet, his faith and his joy in Christ are as strong as they have ever been.  Please continue to pray for my friend; I know the Father has amazing plans for him.

And now I'm moving to somewhere I have never been before.  I don't know how I'll be accepted or what will happen there, but I know that the same God who has complete power to kill demons and transform lives is already working in that place.  My job is just to make myself available to Him and hold on tight.  The Lord is good, and I've learned that is about all I need to know. May He receive the glory and the power and the praise forever and ever. Amen!
