The photo pictures the sellers in their winter fur caps to keep warm in a cold December. Venders are very dedicated to selling their goods. In rain, shine or snow they’ll be here.

In Papua New Guinea, villagers from Saidor in the Rai Coast region of Madang gather outside a village hut to perform a SingSing as the YWAM Liberty team waits inside. This dance is both a welcome and a thank you for bringing medical care to a community cut off by steep mountains and rough terrain that makes outside help rare. For a place the world rarely reaches, this moment marks arrival, gratitude, and the meeting of two worlds at the doorway.

On September 16, 2025, Papua New Guinea marked 50 years of independence. Tribes from across the nation gathered to celebrate through traditional dance, dress, and storytelling. Pictured is a tribal group wearing handmade feathers, shells, and masks that reflect their ancestry and cultural identity.

They speak about faith, responsibility, and being a godly example to the community around them. Discipleship is at the heart of this work because lasting change does not come from programs, it comes through people walking faithfully with others.

In Papua New Guinea, a YWAM Ships dentist performs a tooth extraction on the sandy shoreline of a remote village. With almost no access to dental care in rural regions, many people live for years with pain and infection. YWAM Ships brings treatment to communities that have no clinics and no dentists.
Betel nut is the drug of choice in PNG and is deeply tied to daily life and culture, but it is also the leading cause of destroyed teeth and mouth cancer. Across the entire country, there is roughly one dentist for every million people, leaving an overwhelming need for care that few systems can reach.

One of my favorite things about traveling to villages is seeing new stretches of road. This land is beautiful, surrounded by mountain peaks, dotted with valleys. Yet in many places, it is also desolate. The distances between villages are often long stretches of rock, dirt, and little else. In winter, snow adds to this vast quiet.

Papua New Guinea

An all women’s dance group from Madang Province performs during Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence celebration. Their bodies are painted red using pigment made from berries, and they wear headdresses of parakeet and cockatoo feathers. Shells and woven palm fronds form their dress, each piece tied to identity, land, and ancestry. This dance is more than tradition. It is a public declaration of unity and strength among women in a nation where abuse is common and dignity is often denied. Here, culture becomes both voice and resistance. These women stand together, honoring their heritage while lifting one another toward a stronger future.
