UMHB Tithe Your Career Cohort

Welcome to the UMHB Global Cohort!

Tithing Your Career is a movement of students who invest the first two years of their career living and serving globally.
The Tithe Your Career Cohort is designed for Juniors and Seniors who want to explore and take practical steps to finding a way to use their degree and live on mission globally after graduation.

Goals

The UMHB Global Cohort is for juniors and seniors who want to explore using their degree overseas as their first step after graduation.

It is hosted by GoCorps in partnership with the Global Outreach office, and will strategically train and equip you to discern if you are ready to serve globally after graduation. The cohort will encourage and resource UMHB students of all majors to invest their degree and their faith globally through two-year missional and professional post-grad placements as their first step after graduation.

GoCorps

The UMHB Global Outreach office is partnering with GoCorps to help UMHB grads Tithe their Career and find their unique place in God’s global work after graduation! Since 2009, GoCorps has placed hundreds of recent grads in over forty countries, including 15 UMHB grads.

As a partnership of 15 different missions agencies and global businesses, GoCorps is the connector, coach, and catalyst that helps Christian young adults tithe their time and talents by using their degree in two-year global placements serving with long-term missions teams and projects immediately after graduation. GoCorps handpicks the best teams that are a fit for mentoring recent grads of all academic backgrounds and streamlines the whole process by creating a universal application and removing common barriers.

GoCorps coaches students through the entire exploration, discernment, application and sending process. GoCorps has 6 staff members who live and work in Temple/Belton (including 3 UMHB alumni!) who will be facilitating the cohort and providing 1:1 mentoring and coaching to help students find the right fit in their 150 global placements.

"GoCorps has paved the way for this generation to take the next step post graduation. They have sent alumni all over the world and have connections for each major to truly obey the command Christ has on our lives of making disciples. The Cohort is brilliantly designed to connect students to alumni who have gone before and tithed two years or more to missions. It is a place to discover, get your feet wet, and ask the questions of what it would look like to say yes to missions while building a community of peers in your same season.” -Tiffany Horton, Director of Global Outreach at UMHB

Core Values

  • Community - Like-minded classmates who share the same passion of wanting their first two years to matter for their career and for the world, and are on the same counter-cultural path that requires persistence and resolve.
  • Mentoring + Discipleship - 1:1 from seasoned mission coaches throughout the entirety of the discernment and placement process.
  • Incarnational - The cohort will partner participants with ministries who desire to live contextually within the culture they serve and exemplify Jesus’ humility as the Gospel is shared.
  • Strategic - This cohort simplifies the process for any UMHB student, regardless of their field of academic study, to find strategic, long-term projects that will focus on developing long-term disciples for the kingdom and sharing the Gospel through word and deed.

Application Process

The application process is open! The first step is to submit a cohort application. This application includes a few short-answer questions, but it should be able to be completed in an hour or less. Once you submit an application, you’ll meet with a GoCorps coach for an in-person interview. This is also a great opportunity for you to ask questions about the cohort and process with a GoCorps coach if it’s the right fit for you to join. So you are welcome to submit an application even if you are unsure.

Timeline

February 8 – Cohort applications due
February 9-13 – Interviews
February 16 – Acceptance decisions announced
February 18 through May 4 - 6 Cohort meetings (Days/times TBD)

GoCorps' Commitment

GoCorps will provide a thorough selection of placements through their placement list representing 15 different mission organizations. They will provide coaching and mentoring through the selection process of the student’s team and placement. GoCorps provides every student with fundraising training and the opportunity to participate in our Student Loan Forgiveness program which provides $5,000 towards student loans.

What Will I Gain?

By joining the cohort, you will join a community of others who are exploring cross-cultural service so you can learn, grow, and discern together. Calling wasn’t meant to be lived out alone. Community is where clarity grows and calling is tested, refined, and sustained.

Cohort meetings will focus on…

  • Sharing a meal
  • Praying together
  • Processing your questions
  • Equipping you for service
  • Listening and responding to what God is doing in your life

Topics include:

  • World Christianity: What is the current state of Christianity around the globe?
  • Calling and Clarity: What does it mean to be called? Is that a requirement for global missions?
  • Questions and Doubts: Am I good enough to go? What does it mean to be ready? What if my family + friends have concerns? Is it worth the sacrifice?
  • Fundraising: What does the bible say about fundraising? Is it possible for someone like me?
  • Life on the Field: What does day-to-day on the field look like?
  • Spiritual Disciplines: How do I prepare myself spiritually?
