Goals

The goal of this cohort is to give West Michigan students the resources to use their degree overseas through two year missional and professional post-grad placements + jobs. This cohort will encourage and equip graduating seniors of all majors to invest their degree globally as their first step after graduation. This cohort will provide a community of like-minded, missional peers that desire to Tithe Their Career globally, and it will equip students with next steps through connections and training for your 2 year placement within the second semester of your senior year! This cohort will strategically train, equip, and mobilize upcoming West Michigan graduates to serve globally.

GoCorps

Cornerstone University and Hope College are partnering with GoCorps this year to see a larger percentage of students think and GO globally. GoCorps is an organization that mobilizes 20-somethings into global 2-year placements that are entry level positions connected to all majors. They have 16 years of experience sending 300+ students and helping them discern missional next steps. Their staff member, Bri LaHaie, will be the GoCorps rep for West Michigan to directly coach the cohort both as a group and 1:1 onto the +150 placements they have all over the world so West Michigan students can use their degree within a ministry and missional setting immediately after graduation.

Core Values

Community - It is a group of like minded peers who are all signing up to do something that requires persistence to accomplish. The cohort provides a community of like minded classmates who share the same passion of wanting their first two years to matter for their career and for the world, not one or the other!
Mentoring + Discipleship - You will be mentored 1:1 by a mission coach throughout the entirety of your discernment and team placement process. You will also get to pick from a wide selection of organizations and placements that will continue your mentoring journey throughout the entirety of your two year placement.
Incarnational – The cohort will partner you with ministries who desire to live contextually within the culture they serve and exemplify Jesus’ humility as the Gospel is shared.
Strategic - This group allows the student to have ease and direction to find strategic, long term projects that will focus on developing long-term disciples for the kingdom and focus on spreading the Gospel through message and physical/material need.

Application Process

The application will open in the Fall semester and will include completing an application, submitting references, and an interview process. After those are complete, a select number of applicants will form that year’s cohort. Upon entering the program, a GoCorps staff member will help applicants select a placement and provide support and encouragement throughout the preparation process. There is consistent and intentional time spent with students to ensure that they are as sufficiently prepared for the two-year mission/service experience. This includes training, mentorship, and guidance on financial preparation.

Timeline

October 30th - Applications Due
November 2nd - 13th - Interviews (Scheduling to Follow)
November 16th - Cohort finalists notified
December 4th - Students make decisions + cohort is finalized
Jan - April - Seven Cohort Meetings

GoCorps' Committment

GoCorps will provide a thorough selection of placements through their placement list representing 15 different mission organizations. They will provide coaching and mentoring through the selection process of the student’s team and placement. GoCorps provides every student with fundraising training and the opportunity to participate in our Student Loan Forgiveness program which provides $5,000 towards student loans.

Training

Students will take part in training throughout the spring semester of their senior year through 7 different meetings. This training will focus on holistic development, developing a wellness plan, ministry plan, and other practical items. Topics will include:

State of Missions: What is the state of the current missionary movement?
Fundraising: What does the bible say about fundraising?
Prayer: How do we prepare well through the discipline of prayer?
Missionary Care: What does self care on the field look like?
Life on the Field: What does day-to-day on the field look like?
Spiritual Disciplines: How to engage in spiritual growth now?
