This team serves in a city of 8 million people in East Asia. This country’s historic one-child policy, the pressure to provide for parents in their old age, and a worldview that doesn't see every life as valuable has led to children with disabilities being at very high risk of relinquishment. Furthermore, families that do keep their disabled children have very few services to care for and assist them.
An incredibly strategic door has opened for gospel workers to care for the "least of these" and model the redemptive and adoptive power of the Gospel to a country and people without the hope of Christ. This team partners closely with a Christian medical clinic as well as a non profit organization that ministers to families with disabilities and other high risk populations including the elderly in nursing homes and the rural poor. Common disabilities served include cerebral palsy, downs syndrome, autism, and learning disabilities. During an average week, Goers will attend classes at a local university to study Chinese part of the time, and integrate into the disability ministries part of the time.
Join in the vision to mobilize the church to grow in compassion for vulnerable people through leading by example. Through the work of this strategic ministry, the lives of disabled children as well as their family members and the church are being transformed.
Will you join this battle? The team is also involved in university ministry, nursing home ministry, training medical and allied health care workers, and praying for unreached people groups. While the primary focus of this position is disabled children, Goers can also help in other areas of ministry if interested.
