Handicrafts Ministry to Reach the Unreached

India is a country full of wonder and adventure! From top to bottom in the area we serve God's beautiful creation shines through the miles of endless mustard fields, dense tropical landscape, and abundance of creatures of all shapes and sizes, but the people living there have been blinded and instead worship idols with eyes who cannot see and ears who cannot hear. Our vision is that every person in this district and the surrounding regions would have the opportunity to hear the Gospel, be discipled and be a part of a healthy, locally led house church.

In 2017 we started a small handicraft project as an idea to gain entrance into communities and into women's lives all with the goal of sharing the Gospel and planting house churches and it very quickly grew into a huge project and eventually a non-profit of its own called Asha (HOPE) Project. We began stepping into communities offering hope in desperate poverty. Poverty that steals access to clean water from 163 million people. Poverty that aborts 100,000 baby girls and sends 135,000 children into human trafficking every year. Poverty that marries 27% of girls off before their 18th birthday. Poverty that enslaves 9 million children and 6 million adults in forced labor. Poverty that steals HOPE. Currently we are working with over 60 women. After a season of training, women meet every week in local groups in their communities to continue learning and to turn in the beautiful products they have made that week. And what we have seen over the last year is that despite the often horrifying realities they live in, a tiny piece of hope can change everything. As our women meet in small groups, build community with other women, weekly hear Bible Stories and pray for each other, begin to carry each others burdens, and through the stories begin to learn that they do have worth and purpose and skills, a small flame of hope sparks. They start believing that they might be good at something. They start believing that they might be worth more they they have been told. And they start believing their might be something to this Jesus. That is what Asha Project is all about.

We are looking for some ladies to join our team and be a part of: -Asha Project Ministry: training and discipling leaders, visiting handicraft groups, discipling women, and being a part of the daily work -Asha Project Business: designing and developing products, marketing, retail relations, package designing and more! -Asha Project Outreach Programs: Asha Project has given us a platform to go into communities and do outreach and social working/community building type programs. Currently we are working on a reusable pad project where we will go into communities, spend a day doing activities and training them and then leave them with a kit that will take care of all of their menstrual sanitation needs for 3 years! This is just one of a million doors that are open that we need help walking through!

Skills:
  • This position open to Women Only!
  • While no specific skills are needed, this job request is specifically for full time work in our handicraft non-profit so some skills in the realm of handicrafts and or business/marketing/design would be beneficial and willingness to work in the above listed description is required. I didn't know how to work a sewing machine when I started Asha Project so simple things like that can be learned!
  • Basic Knowledge of the Bible/Acts/Early Church - Our vision and strategy is rooted in God's word so applicant should be committed to the reading and application of the Word and should be familiar with Acts and Paul's Missionary Journeys.
  • We use many 'best practices' used in disciple making movements around the world and will do on the field training for those specific strategies and training that we use on the ground.
  • Personal Maturity and Work Ethic - Applicant needs to display personal maturity and a good, self-starter work ethic. Life and ministry on this side of the world can be crazy and confusing and difficult and amazing, sometimes all at the same time, and applicants need to be able to handle all situations with maturity and be able to be self-motivated to continue pushing on towards our team vision and plan.
  • Ability to clearly communicate the Gospel - A primary job will be sharing the Gospel clearly both so that the recipient can understand but also so that you set a clear example for the believers you are training. Applicant should have basic understanding of how to share the Gospel but should also be open to learning how to do so in culturally relevant ways
  • Culturally Aware - India is a vastly diverse place and it is impossible to ever fully understand everything that is happening around us. Applicant should have the ability and willingness to be aware of their surroundings and be a learner at all times.
  • Flexible - India will teach you nothing if not flexibility! While we have to push forward with the vision and plan God has given us as a team and each of us as individuals, applicants need to be flexible to both the spirit's work in their own life and ministry as well as our work as a team and flexible to the many things that will be thrown at us everyday that sometimes will make huge changes in our plans or expectations.
