Ethnomusicologist/ Musician

Our environment is a beautiful place with vibrant color and incredible sensory experiences in the foothills of the Himalayas. We live in one of the most economically underprivileged parts of India, where a confluence of different religions, economic backgrounds and class make up this diverse and complex environment. Being that we are located in one of the most unreached places in the world, with a burgeoning population and a curious and growing youth population, workers are needed among the youth of our city.

Our team has deep partnerships with locals in a variety of veins of ministry, including education, empowering locals and youth and business startups. We have a weekly fellowship which is in need of someone to help us capture and create materials for our fellowship. This could include a booklet for our fellowship, audio recordings or song writing workshops. South Asian music and art is unlike anything you've ever experienced. The long history and deep meaning is beautiful and being forgotten with each passing day. As a part of our local fellowship and evangelism efforts, we preserve and create new indigenous forms of worship. Song writing, recording and distribution of local music is part of the important role we play to show how valuable and irreplaceable this unique culture is to Christ.

Background: There are currently 2 families in the city who are looking for teammates to promote and encourage indigenous, local expression of South Asian art and music. We have the cultural know-how and ongoing relationships, and are looking for more teammates to help execute new ideas to impact lives.

Job Description: We have our own local fellowship where we invite others to join and learn about Christ without denying their local culture and family background. The trend otherwise, is to attend a Westernized fellowship. As a part of this fellowship and movement, we invite creatives to help us preserve the culture and language of the local people through music.
This could be through:
-assisting local partners with content creation of storytelling in their own language
-working with local recording artists to preserve and promote their music
-teaching music of various kinds to locals
-learning local classical music and participating in performances and cultural events
-starting song-writing workshops for locals to retain and celebrate their music and storytelling.

-musically inclined
-relational and people oriented
-tech savvy (bonus if you have video recording or audio engineering skills)

-Entrepreneurial spirit, flexible attitude, perseverance.
-A commitment to learning a new language and culture.
-A humble attitude of respect for different cultures.
-A combination of a team player and self-starting/independent attitude.

*We strongly encourage ethnic minorities and people from multicultural backgrounds to apply for this role.*
