The Assistant Business Manager will assist the Sewing Ministry Leader in running and scaling Shop Refugee, a flourishing sewing business training and employing refugee women and other displaced peoples living in the Phoenix valley. Shop Refugee (shoprefugee.com) is now marketing and selling the sewn products of over 30 women and has provided training to many more. As the project continues to grow, the Assistant Business Manager plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of running this small business.
The sewing program is both a small business and a ministry, and it is a unique combination of practical and relational ministry. The Shop Refugee workshop is located in a hub of refugee activity and offers weekly sewing classes, so this position offers proximity to refugees along with a structured means to minister to them. You will primarily spend your time accomplishing the behind-the-scenes work of developing the sewing ministry and business, but you will also have the opportunity to share Jesus stories with refugee friends, live among them in apartment communities, and facilitate disciple-making relationships among unreached peoples that are represented here in the U.S.
As Assistant Business Manager, you should have a passion and vision for assisting refugees in acclimating to life in the United States and finding a sense of financial sustainability. This position is primarily task-oriented and requires the ability and drive to own and accomplish a multitude of ongoing and evolving tasks and responsibilities. You will need a heart for service, a vision to work on a team and receive direction, a learning attitude, and the desire to be part of seeing transformation take place among unreached people groups.
