My Letter to Future Goers

By James on December 16, 2020 Track: Ministry Region: Asia - East

It's crazy to think that it has already been two years since I landed in my target country. At that time, I had no idea what was in-store for me over the two years. Some things were to be expected like challenges with my target language and adjusting to culture shock, but even those can present challenges in forms that I didn't imagine. Then there's other challenges that I wouldn't of necessarily expected, anything from a fair number of changes in team dynamics with people joining and leaving, figuring out what making friendships look like, trying to balance anything from studying to reaching... My Letter To Future Goers

By Dora on November 10, 2020 Track: Ministry Region: United States

Dear friends and future Goers, It’s crazy to write this final blog for you. When I wrote my first blog, I couldn’t begin to imagine the type of growth and stretching that the next two years would hold. Coming to the end of my two years, I’m feeling grateful for the many lessons that came from being stretched. I’m excited to share a few, and I hope they are encouraging as you set out on your own journey with God. Be open to where God wants you to go, whether that’s overseas or in the U.S. Never in my life did I ever think I was going to do ministry among unreached people groups in Phoenix,... Read more

New Wine

By Nora on October 20, 2020 Track: Ministry Region: Asia - Central

I've been in Central Asia for a bit over a week now, and I can still hardly belive I'm here.  I'm so grateful.  The cool weather here is a welcome difference from home, but while I may not miss the heat, I certainly miss the people.  It's such a strange feeling to be both incredibly happy to be here, and yet missing who I've left in the US.  The Lord is my Comforter and Confidante through it all. In an online ministry class I've been taking, we've been talking about new wine and new wineskins, as in Mark 2:22.  I know Jesus has new wine for me.  I pray he would also give me new wineskins -... Taking Off Our Shoes

By Dora on September 18, 2020 Track: Ministry Region: United States

Hi friends, There’s a quote I first heard in a missions class that’s recently been on my mind. It goes like this,  “Our first task in approaching another people, another culture, another religion is to take off our shoes, for the place we are approaching is holy. Else we may find ourselves treading on another’s dream, more serious still we may forget that God was there before our arrival.”  – Kenneth Cragg I think it’s funny Cragg uses the illustration of taking off our shoes when approaching another culture, because my team and I literally do that everyday whenever we go into our refugee... Welcome Back

By Dora on August 31, 2020 Track: Ministry Region: United States

Hey friends, On August 17 we officially opened our new English Center and welcomed back students for classes. It was great to reconnect with many returning students we hadn't seen in several months. They loved seeing the new English Center and repeatedly said how thankful they were to have a place to come to for community after being in their houses for so long. Our first English lessons included conversations on how the coronavirus has changed everyone's life and how we can feel many different emotions because of those changes. It's been special for our staff and volunteers to have those... Read more

The New Normal

By Abigail on August 16, 2020 Track: Ministry Region: Middle East

DONE WITH LANGUAGE! I am excited to announce that I am officially done with the language portion of my time here! I have felt very encouraged and empowered by how much I’ve learned and how much I am now able to communicate. In order to maintain my current communication level, I will continue to meet with Turkish friends and practice conversations.  Phase 1 of Re-opening Country  My host country has handled the virus very well, which has resulted in comparatively low cases here. Praise the Lord! After being in a restrictive lock-down for about three months, things are to return to “normal.”... Read more

Be Thou My Vision

By Nora on July 25, 2020 Track: Ministry Region: Asia - Central

I didn’t realize it a few months ago, but this season during quarantine has been a gift from the Father for me.  More and more I realize that God is asking for joyful surrender, and yet He gives me extra time withy family before I leave for such a long time.  I’ve spent these last few months with my two beautiful baby nephews.  Before COVID, I wasn’t even sure I’d be able to meet the youngest before I had to leave.  Now, I get the delight of spending time with them nearly ever day until it’s time to go.     I am also so happy to say that God has come through once again, and I am now fully... A Chicken & A Turkey

By Dora on June 26, 2020 Track: Ministry Region: United States

Hey friends! You know how you go into a store thinking you're going to buy only one thing, but then come out of the store with more than you expected? That's kinda what happened to me and my Rohingya friend. My friend had several chickens in her backyard and wanted to buy some feed for them. I agreed to drive her to a store and didn't think much of it. However when we went into the store and looked around, my friend noticed that she could get another chicken and big turkey for cheaper than normal! So she excitedly pointed to both of them telling the store clerk, "I want to buy these."... Read more

The Most Unlikely Places

By Dora on May 31, 2020 Track: Ministry Region: United States

Hey friends, Where do you think we are when you see this picture? It may look like we’re in a big Asian market, but we’re actually in someone’s house garage! When I first started getting to know my Rohingya friends, I learned many of them shop at stores that their friends have right inside their homes. A lot of the stores have many different products from Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand. They have everything from clothes, skin products, snacks, and even some electronics. I enjoy going to these little hidden stores with my Rohingya friends and seeing how each one is laid out. I often feel like... Read more

My Letter to Future Goers

By Christina on May 4, 2020 Track: Ministry Region: Asia - South East

Hey hey future goers! My heart goes out to all of you during this turmoil in our world; and, I'm sure, in your own heart as well. I just want to say that all your thoughts and feelings are valid. The LORD knows you, He hears you, and He cares for you. God is a merciful God, and He reveals to us that our fears and anxieties tell us that apart from Jesus we can do nothing. If you're having doubts about whether or not you should continue pursuing this, trust me, pandemic or not, doubt will be your greatest enemy all throughout support raising and even as you live out your 2 years in your field...
