Trusting the Process

By Matt on September 14, 2018 Track: Medical Region: Latin America

To Whom it May Concern, Hello! My name is Matt. Once upon a time I just learned about GoCorps and started looking at these blogs. Maybe you’re my best friend ever or a random semi-skeptical college guy like I was checking if GoCorps is legit. Well, the quick answer is…it is. The team is awesome and they care more about each person they meet greater than you could ever envision. Before I give details on where I am going, what I am doing, and why I feel God wants me there I am going to do my best to paint a brief picture of myself. My full name is Matthew McCann. I was a last minute mom and dad... Read more

Sacrifice. It’s a word I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. Ten months ago, when I left home and moved to Peru, I didn’t think I was sacrificing that much. I knew I would be leaving my home. My family and friends. My church. Leaving a way of life that I knew and that was comfortable. I was giving up working in a hospital, pursuing my love of the ER. I was postponing going to grad school. But I saw the next two years of my life as a grand adventure, a reckless pursuit of God’s plan for my life. To say I was excited to move to another country, to live in the jungle, to experience something... Read more

A Taste of the Jungle

By Ellie on July 18, 2018 Track: Medical Region: Latin America

Hola Amigos! I have officially been living in Perú for 6 months! Its amazing how fast time goes by when you’re trying to adapt to a new culture and experiencing so many new things! I moved to the jungle last month and it’s been like a whole new world here. I’ve had to learn all over again how to do life here in Perú. I thought I would give you a little look into life in the jungle and my ministry. SO, here is a list of the things I have experienced since moving to San Ramon. What I’ve done in the jungle (so far): Moved into my apartment Met the ants also living in my apartment Gone to the... Read more

“What things?” This is the question risen Jesus asked two of his disciples as they were walking along the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35) after a heavy three days of grieving the loss of Jesus, their teacher, their hope for redemption, their go-to for all of their questions. The disciples, appalled that he doesn’t know what just happened recount all they’ve experienced. And Jesus walks with them and listens to all of it, then opens their eyes to truths of Scripture all while they continue to listen but still not understand who is really speaking to them. During our annual spiritual retreat,... Read more

Speaking English all weekend felt weirder than I expected

By Ellie on June 12, 2018 Track: Medical Region: Latin America

Hola Amigos! I hope you are all doing well! I wanted to share with you the amazing opportunity I had last weened to go to an English Immersion camp. For the past 3 months or so I have been helping out with an English class/bible study twice a week. It is such an amazing ministry and it has been so encouraging for me to see how the Lord is working in this city. Many of the students who come are not Christians but they continue to come because it is a free English class. Every week I am amazed at the insight these students have about the bible passage we are reading, even if they don’t have a... Read more

One Battle Lost

By Emma on May 13, 2018 Track: Medical Region: Asia - East

Culture stress has really been weighing me down recently; I've been finding my temper becoming much shorter and my emotions more quickly spent. Yesterday (May 13th) was a particularly grueling battle that I lost miserably, and I ended the day feeling so defeated and exhausted.    I've also been struggling to hold onto some sense of quiet time with my all-sufficient Father and Lord, and have been robbing myself of the time of rest with him that, of course, I absolutely need. But this morning (the 14th), I sat down and opened up the copy of Oswald Chambers' book, My Utmost for His Highest, that... Read more

Sitting in the Questions

By Lindsay on May 10, 2018 Track: Medical Region: Asia - Central

What is my purpose here? Where and how should I spend my time? How do I know/hear the will of God? What are the relationships I should spend time investing in? I am ready for healing with my hip injury… God will you heal me from physical pain? Why am I not receiving clear answers to my questions?   I have been in a season of asking many questions yet I have hardly even received an echo back to my questions. As I processed this I started to ask myself why I might not be receiving answers to my many questions. I was praying one day and God finally shared one answer when I asked why he wasn’t... Read more

Taking on the Yoke of Jesus

By Lindsay on May 10, 2018 Track: Medical Region: Asia - Central

Taking on the Yoke of Jesus   Take a moment to remember who God is and who I am. There you go, lifting my load again. No longer am I held by the weight of this world. Come up under the Yoke of Jesus; His yoke is easy, his burden is so light.   Jeremiah 17: 7-8 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”   Matthew 11: 28-30 “Come to me, all you... Read more

The Canvas of His Beauty

By Brooke on May 8, 2018 Track: Medical Region: Latin America

It was 10 degrees. The bitter cold wind blustered against my face. Every breath required effort. One step. Another. Right foot. Left foot. Don’t look up. Breathe. These were the only thoughts going through my mind as the summit of Misti slowly grew closer. The neon green flag, blowing straight west, was right there. It was so close. And just beyond that the last ridge leading to the wooden cross marking the summit. But I had no energy left. Every step was a struggle that brought me only a few inches closer to accomplishing the hardest thing I have ever done. Our journey started early Saturday... Read more
