Say Cheese!

By Andrew on June 29, 2017 Track: Engineering - IT Region: Africa - North

Life Update               Right when my friend and I landed in Batam, Indonesia, we were greeted by our contact and hurried to a mall where the school our contact works at was putting on a graduation show for anyone who wanted to watch.  The families of the kids were seated in chairs and onlookers were standing along the outside.  We were directed to the very front of the seating area where only the principal and her family was sitting.  Suddenly all cameras were pointed to us instead of the concert and most eyes were diverted to us.  We, a couple of white guys, had stolen the spotlight... Journey with Me

By Jen on June 1, 2017 Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - North

Hello! I am a Goer who will be serving in Northern Africa beginning this coming Fall. For the next two years, I will be working with refugees coming from all over Africa and the Middle East. I will be predominantly learning Arabic to aid my ministry. There are currently around 6,000 unreached people in the world. These are people who have never heard the name of Jesus. Most of these are actually Muslims. Much work has already been done in this work, and more people groups are cultivating larger numbers of Jesus followers, which is awesome! However, with the more recent influx of Middle... Read more

Easter

By Bobby on April 25, 2017 Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - North

Easter has always been one of my favorite times of the year.  As we celebrate each year we remember not just a significant historical date but we remember a new life that has been won for us.                 In the past, I’ve been able to celebrate Easter surrounded by close friends and family and although the same truths remained and have filled this season with joy for me, almost everything else about this Easter season has been different. It was about 30 degrees hotter than it usually is even on a warm Easter Sunday back home and I celebrated with all new faces that I’ve met just within... Read more

Final Week!

By Andrew on February 27, 2017 Track: Engineering - IT Region: Africa - North

Support Update  So, this is the final week!  It feels very surreal and is extremely crazy to think about.  Last week I had a lot of fun learning about languages and phonetics and have a quite a few pointers that I’m going to be able to use for French. When I get over to Africa, I’ll probably get into language learning within the first week.  I’ll be using a language helper which means I’ll have to plan the lessons myself which is what this program right now is training me for.  I’m definitely excited for what’s to come and can’t wait to update everyone next week when I’m in Africa! Prayer... Read more

الطَّريق والحَقّ والحَياة

By Georgia on February 12, 2017 Track: Ministry Region: Africa - North

أنا هُوَ الطَّريق والحَقّ والحَياة حَتَّى حدّ مايجي لِلأ بُ كان بيّا To you, this may look like a bunch of scribbles. To you, this may not mean anything. But to me, this is the beginning of an eye-opening conversation. To me, this is an answer to prayer. To me, this is a reminder of how powerful these words of Jesus are. John 14:6 - I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me. It was a Thursday morning. Class was almost over. I'd spent the last hour and a half learning new vocabulary. Now it was time for the daily quote. Usually these were local proverbs.... Read more

The Routine

By Adam on January 31, 2017 Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - North

I am sorry it has been so long since my last update. This past month has been very busy, but I am finally starting to get into a rhythm here. My weeks are full of language learning, language teaching, and helping out at the school/library.I spend fifteen hours a week in formal language study with a language helper and several additional hours a week listening to recordings and practicing with a teammate or some friends at the school. I am now teaching the level 1 afternoon class at the school, which meets on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 4-6, and that has been going really well. In addition, on... Read more

Will You Swim Off of the Reef

By Bobby on January 29, 2017 Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - North

Over the Holiday season I had the chance to take a few days vacation with a some of my team members.  The four of us had the chance to spend one night in the mountains and the next three days camping on a beach.  This country has some beautiful sights to see; high mountain peaks, deep valleys carved by dried up riverbeds, beautiful beaches, and coral reefs teaming with life.  Though trips to see all the beauty that this country has to offer do not come often, it’s nice to be able to take a short trip away from  the cities that we spend the rest of our time working in. The days we were at the... Read more

Final Training

By Andrew on January 25, 2017 Track: Engineering - IT Region: Africa - North

Hello Friends and Family! I've made it to my final training in North Carolina.  The weather here is a lot nicer than in Indiana currently which has been a nice change for me.  I'm not too sure if my body is ready to go from this beautiful weather to the scorching heat of Africa but I guess it will have to learn to adjust just like the rest of me.  My support raising has been gonig really well and I'm just about 100% raised which is such a blessing.  I would still love prayers for eventually reaching the 100% mark as well as for making it safely to my destination country! It definitely feels... Read more

To Live Is Christ

By Georgia on January 7, 2017 Track: Ministry Region: Africa - North

"For me to live is Christ. To die is gain." Such conviction lies in those words. I lay here in bed, cuddled under a blanket, stealing a few moments of warmth in a place with no heat and a few moments of reprieve from a constant onslaught of Arabic. My brain hurts. My whole body is cold. I needed a break. So I lay here, listening to music, trying to get my brain to relax as quickly as possible. Because I know I need to be out there, socializing, building relationships, and learning/practicing Arabic. I want to do that...at least I tell myself I do. But if I'm honest with myself, that's the... Read more

Week 14 Update

By Andrew on December 11, 2016 Track: Engineering - IT Region: Africa - North

[Week 14 Update] Support Update I successfully moved from my apartment in Huntington to my Aunt and Uncle’s house in Fort Wayne.  My roommate and I were able to sell off all of our extra furniture and possessions before leaving which really helped the transition.  It’s also always helpful when you can put everything you own in the back seat of your car. As far as support goes, I’m still not quite at 100% and am looking to meet up with the last couple people who can push me over my goal!  Prayer Requests/Praises I don’t know what the weather is like where everyone else is but in North East...
