An Inspiring Story

Posted on Wednesday, March 20, 2019

I want to take some time to tell you about something that excites me. I’m thankful that I am becoming more aware of His workings- here in Mexico, throughout the world, and even at home. But the story I want to share with you today is happening right now, in Mexico City. Seeing God's work in action is a wonderful thing.

As many of you know, I have been working with my church, El Redentor, since I arrived in Mexico in January of 2018. More recently, I have been speaking about the Community Center project the church has begun. Centro Comunitario has been up and running for a few months now and God has already begun revealing himself through the impact he is making in the community of Azcapotzalco through this church plant.

Translating from our community center facebook page (link at the bottom), “Agustin is a young adult of 18 years. Who is now, after a difficult past with drugs and life in the streets, a part of the life of El Centro Comunitario. Augustin has been participating consistently for four months in our carpentry workshop. Agustin says that, ‘for me, this is my workshop’. He has many expectations over how he is able to improve his complicated situation. Especially now that he and his family have been evicted. But through Centro Comunitario he has found an opportunity to see a distinct future. Not only for him, but for his family as well, who also consistently visit the dental clinic we offer. Agustin also has decided to retake his studies through one of our church’s educational ministries”.

Agustin is just one example of God’s saving grace. Now with the future Pastor of this church plant, and my host dad, Zuriel, Agustin has started being discipled and is learning about the life of Jesus and what the bible says about God’s love for us. I consider it pure joy that I am able to have a small role in building the community center! Right now I help with the carpentry classes, translate things as needed for our amazon page, and hang out with our friends from the community. It’s just the start of a transformational church, and I anxiously wait to see what else God has in store for the people of Azcapotzalco!

If you are interested in ordering lamps, the products of our carpentry workshop, the link to our amazon page can be found below. Agustin, and people like him, come in to participate in our carpentry workshops. As we get orders from people, our director puts together lists of items that need to be manufactured. We then assign these tasks to people according to their abilities. Maybe someone isn’t able to use a table saw, so they screw parts together. Or perhaps we have several pieces of wood that need to be stained, so they stain over 100 little robot legs. Everyone has a role to play in the final production of the lamps and it is awesome to see the joy and ownership everyone takes in their workshop.

I’ll also include links to the centro comunitario facebook and instagram below. Feel free to check it out! Will you join us in praying for Agustin, his friends, and all our future visitors at centro comunitario?

Muchas gracias y Dios les bendiga
