Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus

Posted on Friday, April 13, 2018

Hi friends,

So, I have been going back and forth on what to write about in this blog. I feel like so much has been going on and it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of living in a new country, trying new food, learning a new language, etc. But throughout it all God has been speaking to me and confirming my being here. I thought I would include a bit of an email I sent to a friend recently to explain this a little better:

“God has been teaching me some things recently. I have been thinking a lot about home and what that means. God has been reminding me that here in Arequipa is not my home, but neither is Rutledge. Our home isn't here on earth. The things we have here will soon perish and nothing, not our clothes or cars or houses, nothing will remain. I have been reminded that our treasure is in heaven. So, we need to spend every moment, not trying to buy the newest gadget or put all our time into work, but investing in people. We have been saved! Isn't that incredible?? We need to tell everyone we meet so that they can experience the pure JOY of being dead and being brought back to life! I think you are already pretty good at doing this but it's something I need to work on. I need to work on being BOLD in my faith. Not just with strangers but with people I'm close to. That has been hard for me in the past, but I know through Christ anything is possible. I mean here I am living in a whole new country, that would never be possible without God working and planning everything perfectly to get me here. So, if he can get me here I know I can change me to be an evangelist. I'll be honest the thought scares me a little, but I am a daughter of the most-high king, and I know he would never leave me, and with him I am unstoppable. And so are you. You can do anything through Christ who strengthens you.”

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.

Matthew 16:24-27

Just wanted to share with you how the Lord has been encouraging me lately, maybe it can encourage you too.

Much love,

Ellie
