My Month-Long Facebook Fast

I wrote this blog in the beginning of October. Even though it's late, Enjoy! Written September 4, 2014 This morning I woke up to beautiful rainy morning. As I sat on the balcony doing devotions, I listened for God’s voice. I don’t hear God’s voice audible voice like my mom or dad’s, but I do know when He’s speaking to me and affirming how He’s guiding my heart. He speaks through His Word. He speaks in the quiet moments that I come before Him. He speaks through other people. So what did He say this morning? This morning He reaffirmed that I need to be preparing myself. I need to be getting up… Read more >>

Let's Jump Out of the Boat

Every Saturday morning three of my teammates and myself get up early, take time to drink our coffee, and venture across the noisy, busy town to get to church. As we approach the church my enthusiasm continues to grow. Every week, Saturday is one of my favorite days because we get to have fellowship with women of our church at this prayer meeting. There is something very powerful about people from four different nations uniting together and pouring our hearts out to our Heavenly Father. I have a deep love and appreciation for each of the ladies that come (around ten in all). Prayer is powerful… Read more >>

One of the Greatest Honors

A night full of celebration, helping in the kitchen, and riding in the bed of a truck! Last week I was honored to be able to go to a member of our church’s house inauguration and their daughter’s birthday party. They are building a new house and wanted to have a little service, thanking God for the house, praying for it, giving testimony on His provision. Other ladies from the church were already there when we arrived; they were decorating the doorway and setting up chairs. I have become good friends with this daughter and was excited to be able to celebrate her birthday with her (along with… Read more >>

From the Depth of My Heart: Living Cross-culturally

I haven’t driven a car for 8 months. Our apartment does not have central air conditioning or a furnace. Being in a crowded vickram seems normal to me. I haven’t eaten steak for 8 mo. Darting in-between cars, auto rickshaws, and motorcycles to cross the street is daily life. As men relieve themselves on the side of the street I just ignore them and turn my head like everyone else passing by. Life here is normal. Cows in the middle of the street are normal. Cooking on a gas stove is normal. Eating rice, only chicken, and MANY vegetables every day is normal. What I thought was spicy has now been… Read more >>

Enthusiastic Fire

“Who wants to play the role of the disciples?” Fifteen hands shot into the air and before the question was asked the other five men were already walking to the front of the room. This is what a couple of my teammates and I experienced this week as we led a day long storying session. These young men were so encouraging to me as I saw the bible come to life. They were on fire for the Lord and ready to soak up everything they could learn. We told the story a couple times, acted it out together in a drama, and then discussed what we can learn from God’s word. We learned about God’s power over… Read more >>
