Missions is too important to be left just to the missionaries! Put another way, missions is for ordinary Christians. That’s one of the underlying beliefs of GoCorps. This is something that brings a smile to my face each time I think about it…GoCorps is made up of staff, partners, donors, Goers, and collegiate leaders who are all ordinary. Ordinary Christians who God has kindled an excitement and commitment to his global mission. So, if you’re not feeling especially extraordinary today, you’re in good company, and it is a joy to be partnered with you!

This month’s update includes an ‘In Case You Missed It’ (ICYMI) and also a save the date for Walk Week 2024! Let’s go…

ICYMI

Earlier this month, we crossed a big milestone… we sent Goer #300! Our 300th Goer is a 2023 Azusa Pacific University grad who name is Kyla. She is a really great person, but she, like all the other Goers who have gone before her are not extraordinary, exceptional, or elite. She’s an ordinary Christian who put her ‘yes’ on the table and has let God put it on the map. So, in case you missed it...

MEET KYLA, GoCorps' 300th Goer!

Kyla graduated from Azusa Pacific University in May 2023 with a degree in Education. Kyla heard about GoCorps through our partnership with the APU G.A.P Years (Go and Prepare) program - which sends out a cohort of students who are ready and willing to serve overseas with Christ-based community development and/or mission organizations that work with least reached people groups for two years after graduation. Through GoCorps, Kyla found a position that combined her specialization in special education with her passion for the special needs community. Kyla is joining a team in the Democratic Republic of Congo to help develop a social and support network for special needs children and families. Individuals with special needs, mental and physical disabilities, and other development delays are often completely without individual, targeted care despite their loving and resilient families. Her team seeks to be a transformational witness to this sector of society. Hear Kyla share her testimony in this 2 minute video.

Kyla is a great representative of all the other 299 Goers that have served before her. She’s an ordinary Christian, saying ‘yes’ to God’s invitation to serve, following God in faith, but also mixed with fear, questions and doubts. But she’s continued to give God her next ‘yes,’ and now she lives in Africa!

Save the Date - Walk Week 2024

In 2018, GoCorps created probably the most unique fundraiser type event you’ve heard of… a week of prayer walking! We call it Walk Week and we see it as both a prayer mobilization and a fundraiser. The best part about it is that it’s super family friendly (check out my boys entry into the ‘crazy walk’ contest!), and it’s a great introduction to GoCorps. SO, that means it’s a GREAT event for YOU to INVITE YOUR PEOPLE to participate in.

Did I say it was unique? Ok. Yes. Good. It’s definitely the only event that I know of that is both global and local, prayer and fundraising, fun and meaningful all at the same time. Want to learn more? Watch this video.

Registration for Walk Week opens June 15…For now, make sure you SAVE THE DATE: JULY 29 - AUGUST 2

Want to be a Team Captain this year and invite some friends to participate, registration for Team Captains is open NOW!
